The Pruitt Igoe housing estate was built in Missouri (USA) in 1955. It took over 20 years to build and was comprised of 32 towers, 16 Named Pruitt, the other 16 Igoe. Each was intended to house a different demographic of the population however the scheme was demolished soon after its completion. This spectacular failure of utopian ideals heralded for many the precise end of Modernism. 3.32pm 16th March 1972.
