Happy Hour Drive or The California City Optimists Club

California City was designed to become the capital for California in the 1960's by sociologist Nat Mendelsohn. However only a fraction of the development was actually built. Although a few residents actually live in the city the 80,000 acre desert plot is almost entirely made up of roads with no houses or utilities.  In a way it has become a haunting reminder of failed Utopias.

Miles and miles of roads, residential crescents and avenues lie on the deserts surface. All named with American optimism, yet vacant. The City is made up from just roads and dust.
